BAT FOR LASHES - WHAT A GIRL TO DO
www.moving-picture.com : Dougal Wilson has directed the promo for ‘What’s a Girl to Do’ by female artist Bat For Lashes. The production company was Colonel Blimp with MPC carrying out post production. The enchanting promo begins with the artist embarking on a night time bike ride down a country road surrounded by starlit woods. At first, we think she is on a solo jaunt but as we follow her we see she is accompanied by some rather interesting individuals… While she cycles, various creatures and characters on BMX’s materialize from behind her dancing and clapping in time to the music. Unfazed by this rather strange turn of events the artist continues her tune. VFX Supervisor, Tom Harding attended the shoot in Wokingham and worked closely with Dougal Wilson during production. The effect was achieved by shooting the main plate with Natasha cycling and the animals cycling behind her, these then they were removed in Flame at the appropriate moments using a clean pass. Just three takes were filmed and stitched together to make for one seamless shot. The animal’s movements were re-timed to sync perfectly with the music. The brightness of the stars, headlights and lens flares were heightened. Telecine was carried out by Mark Horrobin who was briefed to make the grade appear as naturalistic as possible.
