Press release, july 2010: What a weekend! 12.000 fans came out to Cologne?s Jugendpark on three beautiful summer days to check out the BMX Masters countless internet users watched the live-stream. They were in for a treat! It was the BMX highlight of the year! The perfect weather, great crowd and best riders on the planet made the BMX Masters 2010 presented by Rockstar Energy an unforgetable event that will surely go down as one of the best contests ever in BMX history! 400 riders from 30 countries were in attendance to compete in Dirt, Park, Flat and the newly introduced Super Ramp class for a shot at the 20.000 Euro prize money. There was also a Girls class and the old-school heads were stoked, because Bob Haro himself, the founder of BMX Freestyle, presented never-seen-before photos and illustrations in the Oldschool-Zone. The first big surprise of the weekend was Adam Kun (HUN) taking the win in Pro Flat Finals on Saturday, outscoring Matthias Dandois (FRA), who is regarded as the best flatland rider in the world, by just a fraction of a point. But Matthias came back in full force on Sunday, winning Suzuki?s Best Combo Contest. 15-year old Brett „Mad Dog“ Banasiewicz (USA) landed a perfect Cashroll in Pro Park Finals, a trick that had never been pulled before in a BMX competition. Even though X-Games Gold medalist Daniel Dhers (VEN) fired out an awesome Barspin to Lookdown Corked 720, he still couldn?t stop Brett from walking away with first place. The Dirt Finals at the BMX Masters are always one of the biggest highlights of the BMX season every year and of course 2010 was no different! With the sun going down over the nearby Rhine river, the stage was set perfectly for the riders to go off like there was no tomorrow. In the end it was TJ Ellis (USA), who took the win by busting out a perfect Tailwhip Frontflip. Yet another big surprise came in the form of newcomer Alex Coleborn (ENG) winning Super Ramp with a 900 Air and a stunning Flair to Footjam on the sub box. Ondra Selz (CZE) didn?t make the podium, but with the crowd really getting behind each rider he decided to fire out the first Frontflip Flair ever pulled on a miniramp. Of course, no BMX weekend is complete without awesome parties. The Grand Opening parties at the Subway and Sensor Club respectively went off and the legendary BMX Masters Party on Saturday had fans and riders rocking out on the dancefloor until the break of dawn. And that is how an unforgetable came to a close that no one in attendance will ever forget. Ground-breaking tricks were pulled, sunburns collected and lots of ice-cold ROCKSTAR Energy Drinks consumed. Or to put in MC Catfish?s words: "BMX Masters 2010 – the BMX event in Europe!" | QUALIFICATIONS. Nicholi Rogatkin, www.fatbmx.com, july 2010: The first event of the weekend was on the Mega-Mini, or Super Ramp. This is a Mini ramp with two back to back vertical 7-foot spines, 7 foot quarters, a huge sub, a 10 foot vert-wall, and a 6 foot lip to lip box. You really have to be here to understand how crazy it is. Riders have to be so dialed to survive on this ramp. Daniel Dhers qualified first. He pretty much tricked every obstacle on the ramp, which is almost impossible. Alex Coulbourne came in second, doing a lot of amazing tech tricks and lines, one including a truck on the first spine, barrel roll on the second, and a 900 on the quarter. Sick. Finishing in 3rd was Ben Wallace, riding so high on the ramp and doing a combination of big, tech, and style tricks. Czech bros Ondra Slez and Michael Beran came in 4th and 5th, throwing down big tricks like flair whips, double trucks, three whips, and even a bike-flip to tire-tap to foot-jam from Michael first go. Press release: Super Ramp Prelims were off the hook too. Daniel Dhers (VEN) and Ben Wallace (ENG) made the finals no problem, but they also have the young guns breathing down their necks. Standouts were Ondra Slez and Michael Beran from the Czech Republic, who murdered the ramp with huge Tailwhip Flairs. Not to mention 17-year-old Alex Coleborn (ENG), who threw down a huge Barrel Roll over the spine straight into a perfect 900. PRO FINALS. Press release: Just before sunset a huge crowd had assembled in front of the Super Ramp for the next highlight of the day: Pro Finals. Cheered on by a massive crowd, Ondra Slez (CZE) fired out a crazy Frontflip Flair, followed by a never-seen-before Flair to Footjam on the subbox by Alex Coleborn. | PRO FINALS. Nicholi Rogatkin, www.fatbmx.com, july 2010: The jumps under the bridge are HUGE! It’s lucky that none of the guys have hit the ceiling yet. Even though the qualifiers were cut a bit short Friday night because the wind caused a duststorm, they continued Saturday morning. James Foster rode amazing, and came in first. He did a couple triple whips, and a 360 barspin to downwhip. Tj Ellis did flips both ways on back to back jumps. Brett Banasiewicz did a flip no hander and a front flip on the first 30 foot set, a corkscrew seven, a triple whip, and a decade. Press release: Dirt Finals.
